On day 2 of my snowshoeing trip in Mammoth Lakes CA (day 1 is posted here: Minaret Summit & Peak 10,242 Provisional), I decided to explore the Mammoth Lakes Basin. I had seen this area several times during the summer, but had never seen it in the winter. I was excited to see how different the area would look with a fresh layer of snow.

The overnight temps were expected to be below 0 degrees F with the wind chill. I wanted to limit my time hiking in those cold temps, but was hoping to get some sunrise photos of Crystal Crag. With this in mind, I decided to start my hike by following a groomed trail for the first 2 miles.I arrived at Lake George, approximately 2.5 miles from where I started, I setup my tripod and camera, and snapped few pics while I waited for the sun.
