The shoulder season, or the in-between summer and winter brings impatience. Will there be enough snow to recreate before winter? Despite what seemed like a slow start, the snow started falling in our Colorado Mountains last week and the trails have come alive for a new snowshoe season.
In honor of our respected service men and women on Veterans Day, the day of our inaugural outing, we explored trails close to the home of the 10th Mountain Division terrain in the Vail Valley. The trails on Grouse Creek and Meadow Mountain had ample snow coverage to test out the new Tubbs FLEX RDG snowshoes. The binding tightens easily for a snug fit that provided great stability and never loosened up during our 2 hour trek.
My smile says it all for the new season! My trail breaking husband is wearing his Tubbs Mountaineers. These shoes are the trailblazers for our team. (Pictured above).
Three days later, after a few snowy days and nights the slopes and trails were graced with up to 2’ of fresh powder. We chose to explore the gulches of Fremont Pass just south of Copper Mountain ski resort and were in for a deep treat. We came upon the ruins of 3 cabins and broke trail to shelter from the storm’s winds.
The snow was a deep treat, the cabin, sparked our exploring interest. Margit is sporting Tubbs Mountaineer snowshoes, which easily maneuvered through the deep trail to the cabin.
The discovery of places we would never otherwise be able to get to in the winter, is why we snowshoe.
