Used in every type of snow and terrain this past winter. Only trouble I had was in a double crusted snow layer breaking the trail open. Otherwise they performed admirably.

Comments about Tubbs Snowshoes Men's Wilderness Snowshoe:

I originally started with a set of military surplus style snow shoes. In comparison the wilderness snow shoes were vastly superior in traction, weight and floatation. I found with the wilderness snow shoes I was able to climb grades (even thick crust/icy) that I would have never attempted with the military style shoes. I found the Tubbs snow shoe much more stable and reliable. The weight difference was very noticeable. The wilderness (36") were vastly lighter and allowed me to extend my range almost double due to ease of use and lighter frame.

Comments about Tubbs Snowshoes Men's Wilderness Snowshoe:

This is my 3rd winter with my Wilderness 36 'shoes and they've been absolutely flawless. They provide decent flotation, I'm quite a bit heavier than I'd like to be and should be so that's not a fault with the 'shoes but rather praise. These are the 3rd pair of snowshoes I've owned in my life, and the 2nd pair of "modern" 'shoes, and they're the easiest and most natural to use.

Adjusting the bindings when you first put the 'shoes on or change boots is pretty easy, and once you get them adjusted you merely step into the binding, push your heel all the way against the strap, then connect the ratcheting buckle and tug the free end of the strap to your preferred tightness. The reAct binding on the Mountaineer and Xpedition shoes is easier, but the 180Pro on the Wilderness can easily be operated with gloves on. I wouldn't mind the front straps being about 2" longer to give me more to grab when I tighten them, though.

I use these mainly on hiking and snowmobile trails, they're surprisingly maneuverable for their size on narrow, tight trails in the woods but you will have to plan your footing from time to time. My usual snowshoeing partner is a tiny lady and I envy how nimble she is on her Mountaineer 21s! LOL. I've never had a traction problem on ascents or descents, and it's rare for me to do anything more technical than a kick-step while climbing. The 'shoes offer enough traction to make sidestepping or herringboning unnecessary on any of the hills I've encountered. Poles are definitely very handy for ascents & descents, though!

I've given a pair of Mountaineer 21s as a gift and they transformed someone who hated the winter into a snowshoeing nut. Buy these and you'll become one as well. I recommend Wilderness snowshoes with absolutely no reservations.

Comments about Tubbs Snowshoes Men's Wilderness Snowshoe:

These are the first snowshoes I have been on. I have never thought I would really care to own a pair, but after having bought these in the later part of the winter (mid February), I am kicking my own rear end for not buying me some years ago. I have been out at least twice a week since owning my TUBBS Wilderness snowshoes and have logged about 12 miles per trip. They are comfortable, easy to get in and out of with the one-time fit binding system. If it wasn't for living in Montana where snow is still falling here in late April, I may have waited until next winter. As it is now I am looking forward to another two weeks of snowshoe use. I would reccomend these to anybody, and will definitally be purchasing another pair of TUBBS in the future.
